Cabell Huntington Hospital was created to care for the community by members of the Tri-State community. From the day the hospital opened in 1956 until today, the employees of Cabell Huntington have not forgotten who they are serving – the very people who brought the hospital into existence.
For the tiniest infants to the most seasoned adults, Cabell Huntington Hospital has a wide range of services to meet the community’s healthcare needs. The hospital has an air and ground transport program that brings patients to the doors of its Level II Trauma Center, under the experienced care of specially trained, high-risk maternity, neonatal, pediatric and aeromedical transport teams. Offering the newest technology used by healthcare professionals in specialty services such as high-risk delivery, neonatal, pediatric, adult and burn intensive care, Cabell Huntington Hospital has become a highly regarded regional referral center.
The hospital's new Edwards Comprehensive Care Center offers patients access to experienced physicians, radiologists, and surgeons, along with a skilled nursing staff and the most current protocols for cancer diagnosis, treatment, and care.
In addition to a broad spectrum of traditional healthcare services, pediatric and adult cancer care, inpatient and outpatient hemodialysis, minimally invasive joint replacement, minimally invasive back surgery, cosmetic surgery, geriatric services, women’s health services and comprehensive rehabilitation services are all offered at Cabell Huntington Hospital.
St. Mary’s Medical Center’s tradition of caring for the sick began on November 6, 1924, when eight Pallottine Missionary Sisters opened a 35 bed hospital. Today, St. Mary’s is the largest medical facility in the Tri-State region, Cabell County’s largest private employer and the second-largest healthcare facility in West Virginia.
As a teaching facility associated with the Joan C. Edwards Marshall University School of Medicine, St. Mary’s trains medical residents in several specialties. The hospital campus is also home to the St. Mary’s School of Nursing and the St. Mary’s School of Radiologic Technology.
The first open-heart procedure in the Tri-State was performed at St. Mary’s in 1979. Now hundreds of open-heart procedures are performed annually by board-certified cardiothoracic surgeons. In addition, St. Mary’s provides a comprehensive array of cardiac services including both diagnostic and interventional procedures, non-invasive cardiac procedures as well as secondary prevention programs such as inpatient and outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation.
Supported by the Research and Education Programs of the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, St. Mary’s Regional Cancer Center offers medical, surgical and radiation oncology services. Featuring advanced technology, the majority of neurosurgical procedures in Huntington are performed at St. Mary’s. A specialized neuroscience unit is designated for adult neurology and neurosurgery patients, including stroke patients.
As a Level II Trauma Center, St. Mary’s specializes in caring for and rehabilitating the critically injured and ill through comprehensive surgical and medical specialties.
Quality care is also available to those in the Huntington region coping with psychological health concerns. River Park Hospital is a locally-owned and operated 165 bed psychiatric facility offering programs for adults, adolescents and families. Specialized services include substance abuse programs, psycho-educational groups focusing on topics such as coping, self-esteem, stress management and anger management, as well as therapeutic recreation. The hospital also offers a Christian therapy program by request.
Huntington's Veteran's Affairs Medical Center is a fully accredited 80-bed acute medical and surgical care facility, offering primary care, outpatient mental health services, and subspecialty outpatient care. The Medical Center is a principal teaching facility for the Marshall University School of Medicine for undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
HIMG Regional Medical Center is a thriving multi-specialty group practice founded in 1969 now consisting of 64 physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners including primary care, medical subspecialties and general surgery.
HIMG also has a community education center, which features continuing education classes and provides free healthcare screenings to the community. The facility houses its own urgent care center, diagnostic laboratory, imaging center, edoscopy, surgery center, chemotherapy center, heart and vascular center and hearing center.
HealthSouth, a 40 bed rehabilitation hospital in Huntington, provides physical, occupational and respiratory therapy, speech pathology and therapeutic recreation services for patients with several ailments and injuries. The hospital serves about 700 inpatients and 7,000 outpatients each year.
Hospice of Huntington recently celebrated its 20th anniversary helping patients spend the last days of their lives living in as much comfort as possible while retaining their dignity and quality of life. What Hospice does better than any other healthcare provider is look at the impact of the illness on the entire family and help them reach closure.
